Hickory Fest Kickoff Reception & Concert-Verlon Thompson Find Your Angel, Dan Shipe, Kenny Cox

Please join us for a very special evening with Grammy nominated Nashville songwriter, Verlon Thompson as he kicks off Hickory Fest 2018 at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday the 15th. Verlon will be performing his Civil War "operetta" Find Your Angel. 

We will have a reception in the lobby of the Deane Center beginning at 6PM with a special wine tasting by Mountain Lake Winery from nearby Towanda, PA and a delicious Hors D’oeuvres spread by Wellsboro's Red Skillet.

Find Your Angel is a riveting musical portrait about a courageous young woman from Vicksburg, Mississippi and her life before, during, and after the Civil War. Travel back to the deep south of the mid 1800's as this privileged southern belle's perfect life suddenly collides with the Siege of Vicksburg. Verlon's performance will delight both history buffs and acoustic music lovers alike.

Verlon was a close friend and musical collaborator with Sue Cunningham the co-founder and producer of Hickory Fest for many years. Before Sue's passing, Verlon and Sue performed Find Your Angel: Verlon Thompson and Sue Cunningham to audiences all around the country including two previous performances at the Deane Center. 

Opening for Verlon will be Wellsboro's own Dan Shipe and Kenny Cox all the way from Punta Gorda, Florida. Dan Shipe performed for many years with Sue Cunningham and Kenny Cox was a friend and musical collaborator with Sue down in Florida. Danny will be performing at this year's Hickory Fest as Dan Shipe & Friends and Kenny will be bringing his band BIG SKY to the festival this August.
All proceeds from this event will go to support the new Sue Cunningham Music Scholarships at the Wellsboro High School and the Rock L. Butler Middle School.
